2022 Farm Apprenticeship ~ Ontario
June 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - June 26, 2022 @ 12:00 pm

Apprenticeship went the way of old courtesy in most working environments long ago. But apprenticeship is an old courtesy. It was there in the mystery schools, in the guild halls, in any place people were willing to marry discipline to the desire for understanding, to sire purposeful lives, achieved and contemplative lives that were indivisible from their daily lives. Discipline: The uncommon rigour of thought and act that you take upon yourself, because of the regard you have for one you propose to learn from.
This apprenticeship is rooted in land and season and a farming life. And so it is rooted in lucid labour.
There will be mornings of exhortation, wonder, eloquence of thought and inquiry. There will be days-long care of plant and animal life. There will be evenings of banquet hall kenning and companionship of the noble and devotional kind. Table fellowship, it used to be called. All of it will serve the days we find ourselves granted and burdened by, and the life and the world out there beyond the farm gate. Work, by another name. So some degree of physical fitness is recommended. The duration is only a week, and the numbers will be small, and the inquiry will be dialled in and detailed, and drastic sometimes.
This is an apprenticeship at the foot of the withering World Tree, for young folk and old folk, for elders in training.
