At Work In The Ruins At The Stoa ~ Bayo Akomolafe, Dougald Hine, Stephen Jenkinson & Vanessa Machado de Oliveira

March 31, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Stephen’s been interviewed by Peter Limberg of The Stoa on several occasions, most recently as part of a Finding the Elders series, and a 3-part Philosopher in Residence Series: “1. Dying and death, 2. love and matrimony, 3. money and soul, aging and elderhood, all drawn through the eye of a pestilential needle. you can listen to those here: https://orphanwisdom.com/2021/08/30/interviews-the-stoa/
On March 31st @ 2:00 PM EST (Ontario) / 8:00 PM CEST you are invited to listen to this public conversation live (online).

Peter says…Starting from the themes of Dougald’s new book, At Work in the Ruins, this will be a conversation about the power of the language of “hospicing”, the “death-phobia” at the heart of modernity and the way this blurs our ability to look soberly at endings, but also how we reimagine the sources of agency when it comes to assisting with the birth of the new, as yet unknown and possibly (but not necessarily) wiser. Not least, how do we get beyond the assumption that agency lies solely with humans (and the particular subset of humans assumed to live closest to the future)?

Stephen, Vanessa and Bayo are three of the thinkers whose work resonates through the pages of At Work in the Ruins, so this is a rare opportunity to bring them into a public conversation with its author at the Stoa.
