I heard it the first time on stage in a NYC hall over a decade ago, at the very first Night of Grief and Mystery, before it was named so: ‘If we never get to do this again…”
Strange, I thought, what’s he talking about? We’re supposed to do this tomorrow night in Berkeley, then the next in Austin, then the next in Boulder.
We did. Then we did more. And then 10 years’ worth more after that. And then more again. And every night, that evocation would appear in some form, weaving itself into the DNA of the rigours of touring: if we never get to do this again. It took me so long to understand the worthiness in that phrase— the generosity of gratitude; occupying a moment as if it will have to stand for everything you’ve been; proceeding as if waking up is not a guarantee.
And so, it appears as if we get to do this again. It begins in October 2026 in the US. Nights of Grief & Mystery: Trembling, Still/Caldera Tour
We are keeping the tempo of the schedule sane, the operation nimble, and the hours on stage properly loose, wilderness bound, and as adventurous as the last few years have taught us to be.
We’ll be together with you on these nights as if they will have to stand for all we’ve done together.

PS
If last night here in the roundhouse at Trefacwyn on the coast of Wales is any indication—where three of us tumbled across new and old pieces for the first time in 3 years in for those gathered in the room—we are all in for some righteously devastating moments, genuine laughter, and the gentle arm of endings of all kinds around our shoulders after the last note fades.
