Sometimes fate or fortune – or both – grant you enough pause from the general furor to revisit some crucial time, some drastic alteration to the usual thing that has made havoc with you.

I have the good fortune to have such an evening before me, October 7, in Asheville, N.C.

I’ll be joined by Kimberly Johnson, quiet, steady ally and witness to the extraordinary storm and stagger that produced Trembling, Still: The Awful Clarity of a Mind in Eclipse, the story of my encounter with Parkinson’s disease.

We will reckon on the mysterium tremendum, and the terror, the heartbreak, and the strange and drastic mercy to be found in what will not be cured.
